The New Guy - An Introduction in E minor

Hey there Radio KGB!! My name is Ryan and I'm the new guy here at the ol' blog. I was recently asked to begin contributing to the KGB. So here I am, ready to provide you with up-to-date info and the best insight I'm able.

Now, you might be sitting there thinking to yourself, "Wait a minute....doesn't RadioKGB already do an excellent job of these things?" And well, if that's what you're thinking, you're right. They do. However, I'm into a different type a music than what's typically written about here. The music I listen to tends to be a bit more "indie rock", I guess. The ultimate goal of KGB is to expand everyone's horizons when it comes to the latest and best music (including our own). I know that over the past few months I've heard quite a few new songs or bands I've liked that I might otherwise not have heard thanks to your friends here at KGB. Well, all I intend to do, is add to that experience. And hopefully, between the three of us, there's something on this blog that you can get into...

So how should I get started? What will my first post be? What should I introduce to you first? Well, the best answer I could come up with to that question was.....Me. Why not introduce you to me? My particular tastes, my favorite bands, etc. And what better way to do this than to take a page out of the KGB playbook and create my very own webcast. So without further ado, here is my first webcast available for download. I've entitled this webcast A Taste of Indie as a prelude to the type of music I intend to write about. I hope you enjoy it.

Here's a quick list of the songs I've included on this webcast. It covers a variety of the bands, songs, and genres I enjoy. So, if you don't mind, take the time to download it.....give it a listen.....and then let me know what you think down in the comments section. No more talking, let's get to the music.......

1. Smashing Pumpkins - Age of Innocence
2. Citizen Cope - Son's Gonna Rise
3. The Cloud Room - Hey Now Now
4. Alexi Murdoch - Orange Sky
5. Elliott Smith - Say Yes
6. The Postal Service - Such Great Heights
7. Iron and Wine - Such Great Heights
8. Death Cab for Cutie - A Lack of Color
9. Clem Snide - Joan Jett of Ar c
10. Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Maps
11. Silversun Pickups - Lazy Eye

Enjoy folks. Until next time.......

RR

Rutledge,

Sounds great man! Welcome aboard, I look forward to learning more about indie music.

Tell me more about Elliot Smith. Obviously a big name but I've never given him a solid chance. What would you recommend as a good starting point?

Well, he's got like 6 albums....The first song I heard was Miss Misery off the Good Will Hunting soundtrack. I like that so much that I then bought the XO cd. However, I would recommend his Either/Or CD. The song from my webcast is from Either/Or. Maybe in my next post I'll do a little ditty on Elliott Smith. Glad you liked it sir....

Taking my first listen of Either/Or and enjoying it. Better late than never I suppose.

I've always liked Roman Candle. I believe that was his first solo album. The No Name songs #1-4 are all good, but I'm definitely partial to No Name #1 and #2.

Yeah, good point Brandon. Speaking of the numbered songs though....what about Waltz #2? I know that was later, but that was another song that got me hooked on Elliott....

Nice work Ryan. It all sounds good. The Such Great Heights stuff was interesting - I definitely like the Iron and Wine version better, but you might have expected that. The original is pretty interesting. Thanks for the primer on Indie.
