Dispensers of fine ale at Young's in Hammersmith, UKIt’s finally time for another Top 5 here at KGB and I will gladly raise a glass to that. In fact, many glasses, as was done this fine weekend when music cohort Bryan Kendall and posse rolled into Santa Barbara for a weekend in the sun. We sampled many home, local, and regional brews and didn’t turn one away. So, in honor of that festival of beer, let’s hear about some songs relating to the honest brew, press, and distillation that we love so well. These can be songs about drinking (in moderation or otherwise) or about a specific drink. So, with out further mention, give me your best:

1. John Lee Hooker - One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer: Here's an obvious one to start things off. Sounds like a good combination to me!
2. Big Ass Truck - Malt Liquor Man: This is a throw back to the college days when we drank malt liquor and Big Ass Truck was still a band.
3. Widespread Panic - Ribs and Whiskey: Alternate title for this song is Seen Your Sister Naked, but its got some great lines about said ribs and whiskey - "makes my mind feel tight"
4. Beastie Boys - Paul Revere: This one's basically about a keg of beer, a desert, and the tale that ensues. Classic song writing and a story about brew and bars.
5. Grateful Dead - Dire Wolf: "I sat down to dinner, it was a bottle of red whiskey"

1. Snoop Doggy Dogg - Gin and Juice: This one's about a drink, a party, and the tale that ensues.
2. Dave Matthews Band - Grace is Gone: Gettin' fucked up in a bar cuz your girl just left ya. That's a drinking song if i ever heard one.
3. Sublime - 40 oz. to Freedom: Enough said.
4. Jimmy Buffett - Boat Drinks: Sure it wasn't the obvious....something about margaritas....i'm different like that.
5. Billy Joel - Piano Man: If i'm in a bar I expect to hear this song. And I expect to karaoke to it. And I expect to be too drunk to hold the microphone.
Yikes, pretty week showing at the Top 5 this time.

2. I Gotta Get Drunk- The Little Willies (also Willie Nelson)- “I guess I better have another round”… my thoughts exactly
3. Red Red Wine- UB40- “You make me feel so fine; you keep me rocking all of the time”
4. You’re Pretty When I’m Drunk- Bloodhound Gang- I had completely forgotten about this song until I started to dig for songs. Nothing like singing about beer goggles
5. Sweet Caroline- Neil Diamon- Like Ryan’s Piano Man, not a song about drinking, but every drunk person in the bar has to song along to this one!

I Love Beer - Kudzu Kings
Obvious choice right? Good song. No need to quote lyrics. The main theme is choosing beer over women.
Wine with Dinner - Loudon Wainwright III "Drinks before dinner and wine with dinner and after dinner drinks." Saw this guy perform once at Tall Stacks. Amazing show for a guy that couldn't remember the lyrics to half his songs.
Up Against the Wall, Redneck Mother - Ray Wylie Hubbard "He's 34 and drinking in a honky tonk. Just kicking hippies asses and raising hell."
My favorite versions are Purple Riders of the Crusade and Jerry Jeff Walker.
